We were surprised to find that the NT 'Open Access' playing field was choc-a-block with a big junior sports day, but we were allowed into a far corner of our car park.
Here are the 13 of us starting off along the boundary road, parking prohibited.
Morning tea stop
Clive, our leader in red, led us through fields of buttercups. Denise was way in front!
We stopped for lunch at a pub in Parkgate, but by now there were spits of rain and the day was not living up to its early promise.
Some of the party were concerned by a field of cows surrounded by electric fences blocking our path...
...but considerably relieved when we got past. The cows seemed to be waiting for something, but they were quite placid really.
A much-admired cottage
Our afternoon tea stop was at Leigh, overlooking the river valley.
Finally we returned to the emptying playing field to enjoy the customary home-made cakes that our longer walks group enjoys. Even the sun had come out.
Many thanks to Clive and Denise for leading the walk and providing the gorgeous cakes.
